Bugatti revealed a new video of the Tourbillon in action at the Nardò track in Italy, showcasing the impressive sound of its 8.3-liter V-16 engine.
Although the former management of the Volkswagen Group wanted a fully electric model, Mate Rimac insisted on keeping an internal combustion engine at the heart of the hypercar. The result is a naturally aspirated engine capable of reaching 9,000 rpm, delivering one of the highest revs ever seen in a production car.
Unlike its predecessors, the Veyron and Chiron, which used a W-16 engine, the Tourbillon adopts a V-16 configuration designed by Cosworth. This choice goes against the trend of downsizing and is only possible thanks to a hybrid system with three electric motors.
While brands like Ferrari and McLaren adopt smaller engines in their electrified models, Bugatti opted to keep a large engine without compromising regulations.
With only 250 units planned, the Tourbillon will be one of the last expressions of large-displacement engines in the automotive industry. Models with V-12 engines still exist, such as the Ferrari 12Cilindri and the Lamborghini Revuelto, but none of them reach the extreme level of the new Bugatti.
Deliveries will begin in 2026, solidifying the Tourbillon as one of the last hypercars with a large-displacement internal combustion engine.
